Like Mao, Leon used to train at Yosen Shuuka. After becoming a superb chef, he decided to wander around China for four years. Before his departure, he made a promise with Master Ryou: once Leon returns, he has the right to own one of the 8 Legendary Cooking Utensils. But to everybody's surprise, Leon is part of the Dark Cooking Society. Meili was especially devastated by his change. She remembers the days when Leon was still around...he was very gentle, and took care of all the animals. Whenever he had to kill any livestock for a dish he got very sentimental, and made sure to pledge a prayer for them afterward. A good thing is that Leon still keeps this trait! It turns out that Leon is not evil after all, he was just pretending to be "cold and distant". He tells the folks that after he left Yosen Shuuka, he couldn't resist the temptation and joined the Dark Cooking Society, because he wanted to gain more knowledge about cooking. He does not realize the damage this decision has done to him, until the "Seven Star Blades" were given to him by the knifesmith, Lache. Upon knowing that there will be another set of Seven Star Knives made, the inner evilness of Leon gained by joining the DCS overpowered his conscience, and made Leon pushed Lache over a tall cliff. Leon thought he had murdered his teacher, and carried this uneraseable guilt with him for many years after. He managed to escape the DCS's evil clutches, now his main goal is to eliminate the DCS! He even carved a bloody X over the DCS logo on his left hand to prove it. Because of this guilt however, Leon becomes very vulnerable, and his immense pride is easily crushed. Shan uses his vulnerability to manipulate his mind, coaxing Leon to disown his set of Seven Star Knives because he has the blood of Lache in his hands, when in truth she was the one who really murdered Lache. Luckily in episode 41, Lache's spirit appeared when the two sets of Seven Star Knives reunite, and destroyed Shan's evil set. Onto cooking abilities...Leon has amazing knifework, thanks to his seven knives. He is very dedicated to his cooking, even if it means getting hurt physically (Episode 32). Because of this dedication, the spirit of the "Forever Mystical Knife" also recognized him as a worthy owner besides Mao. I know this is getting too long, but I just one more *important* point to add...considering Leon's age is close to Meili's, my friend and I concluded that he must have taken steroids during his stay in the DCS. How the heck could he be so tall and buff, comparing to Mao, Sanche, and Fei?? Think about it ^_^
