She is Mao's mother, and one of the most well-known and respected chefs in China. Unfortunately she passed away. In the anime, reason of her death is unknown; but in the manga, she died because of longterm exhaustion due to Shouan's rebellious actions. However, she still cares for Shouan, and was worrying about him on her deathbed.
Although dead, her spirit still lives on through Mao and Fei. She was a huge influence to them, and was an inspiration to their cooking. She was the one who rescued Fei from the edge of death, and taught Mao about the virtues of a chef. Also, when Pai was younger, she had to fight off many chefs from the Dark Cooking Society who challenged her. Each of the tournaments was recorded in a notebook, which was found by Mao later. This is why Mao was clear about all the Dark Cooking techiques exclusive to members of the DCS.
